Illuminating the heritage of the Great War, St Barnabas

This project began in 2015 as a joint initiative between the Erdington Historical Society and St Barnabas.  The aim was to illuminate part of the heritage of Erdington, in particular the 29 servicemen who fell during the great war and who are buried in the churchyard.

The Heritage Lottery supported our proposals and funded the project as part of their “Then and now” initiative.  The project research grew and grew and ultimately the booklet was published in March 2017.

It now contains three sections which

• Commemorate the lives of the 29 servicemen buried at St Barnabas.

• Identifies a further 20 who are commemorated on family stones.

• Contains the stories of 11 other servicemen who served in the great war.

St Barnabas wishes to thank the Heritage Lottery who made this project possible.
