New to church?

A church is like a family and at St Barnabas we always like to welcome new people to our family.

If you’re new to church or haven’t been for a long time, we know that it can be intimidating to walk in to a new group of people who all seem to know each other.

But please don’t let that put you off coming in!

Sundays and Midweek worship

Every Sunday we have welcomers on the door who are there to do just that – make you feel welcome. You might like to identify yourself as new if they don’t seem to realise straight away.

Our Sunday service starts at 10.30am and lasts about an hour.  We include prayers, hymns, readings and a sermon or talk. If you’re able to, people usually stand for hymns and we sit for prayers and readings.

After the service we gather in the community hub area for coffee for a chat and catch up if you’d like to take part.

There are toilet facilities available and the church is fully accessible.

Children are always welcome at St Barnabas. You may be interested to know that if you do attend with your young children there is a crèche at the back of the church for babies and toddlers if you’d like to use it and Bethan, our children and families missioner, organises activities for young children in the community hub area during the service if they would like to take part.  The first Sunday of the month is All Age Holy Communion in church. Bethan can be contacted on email if you have any questions regarding children’s activities. Please email: childrenandfamilies@stbarnabaserdington.org.uk

Wednesday’s

Midweek morning prayer is every Wednesday at 10.30am in the Chapel.  This is a quiet and reflective service where we pray together in the peaceful surrounds of our chapel. Whilst there are no official welcomers, don’t worry, generally a handful of people attend and as soon as you arrive we’ll take care of you.

To sum up..

People go to church for many different reasons. Some prefer it to be a time of quiet reflection, others want to engage with the service; others go seeking prayer or spiritual support. Others go because they want to marry in their local church and are visiting to see what it is like.

If you’re still unsure about what to expect please contact us and we’ll arrange for someone to show you around or chat to you in advance. You can also check our website and Facebook page to find out more about life at St Barnabas.

Whatever your reason, as soon as you arrive you’ll be made welcome and we never want you to feel any pressure to do anything you don’t want to do.

We look forward to welcoming you soon.
